six months to go…

 April 1, 2012

This is no April fools joke – the clock has sped up…6 months until “a love story” the RCAA show starting Oct 4th… 18 months until “52” in October of 2013. “52” is my new working title…. I’ll talk more about the title later.

We still haven’t been able to present to RAM

March 22, 2012

Carp spawning …amazing sight. Big heron on shoreline…not many heron lately. Where are they?

Dudamel with Sharon & Terry

Gershwin – enjoyed the interviews, watching rehearsals and being with Sharon & Terry. Had a realization on what I like/enjoy and don’t.

Art- when I see realistic art I might appreciate the talent behind the work but I don’t feel the art like I do when it’s abstract/contemporary.

Nature – what I like about nature is the bridge between realism and abstract. The colors and textures of nature are the bridge.

Music that is familiar, safe and happy doesn’t move me.. . I like more classical and alternative music

March 13-14, 2011

Solar Plate class at Jan Harvey’s:

  • Made swan and tree plates
  • Love Jan’s home
  • Have to decide if solar plate is affordable for my project

35 plates @ $15 = $450
100 papers @ $4.50 = $450
52 frames @ $125 = $6500
Total: $7400

february happenings…

February 20, 2012

Dudamel – great performance – had to leave early.

Black Tie Bingo had us all dressed up. We hosted a cocktail party – it was fun being in our house at night with tuxes and gowns.

Pomona Museum to hear Helene Winer, John Baldessari, Bill Leavitt and Al Ruppersberg. Baldessari signed an article on managing your obsessions for me.

I put together a piece for the RCAA show.  I need to start on my 15 pieces for October.

Doug called regarding the proposal. Gave a suggestion for a tweak and I’m to set a meeting for all my advisors.

February 3, 2012

Nice long walk – listening to Cloud Atlas by my favorite author – DAVID MITCHELL. :)  Took me three tries to get into the first short story – now I’m hooked but probably won’t get it done in time for Bookwomen  – oh well.

Did some art reading this morning and plan to spend a few hours in my studio this afternoon.

Just sketched a Canvasback duck – they are beautiful.

February 1, 2012

8 months until…

  • RCAA show
  • Start of sabbatical

Need to decide…

  • Who do I want to study?
  • What do I want to study?
  • Who do I want to visit?
  • What questions do I want to ask?
  • Start making art

Saw “DOUBT” – RS Community Players, saw on Broadway with Cherry Jones, saw the movie with Meryl Streep.  Thought the local production, with Lynne Ennis, was excellent.  Had more of an impact than the other two performances.  I have been thinking about it since – DOUBT on HOMELAND, DOUBT of Marla the 4 year old artist…

celebrate…I actually had a productive week

January 20, 2012

I HAVE HAD A PRODUCTIVE WEEK!  KEEP IT UP!

  • Christmas put away
  • Raincross email and presentation
  • Finished proposal and delivered to Doug

Doug seemed impressed…he said “I can see that you are serious about this.” Prior to receiving a professional proposal he had only viewed lots of handwritten notes.  Nolan Bushnell said something twenty-five years ago that greatly impacted me…”What good is a good idea…anyone who has ever taken a shower has had one”.  It really is all about the action part..getting it done. So I am now one step closer to getting it done!

happy new year…9 months until my sabbatical begins…

January 3, 2012

Had a super time with David over the holidays. One thing I love is that he is always game to go to museums with me…

First day back after 10 days off. Feeling disoriented from the time off and anxious with the 9 month countdown to prepare for my sabattical. I NEED TO HAVE SPECIFIC TO DO LIST. I NEED TO FOCUS AND PRIORTIZE

I did try to add to my rock collection over the holidays…

“outrage” is close to completion…

December 6, 2011

Very, very windy lately so no walks. Lots of holiday activities that make it hard to be focused on my goals.

I want to finish my “OUTRAGE” journal. It is taking me longer than I thought but then I have turned it into a much bigger project than the class assignment. This mixed media class was a birthday gift from Zee and David. I’m learning about layering which is what was missing from my work. It is what makes the work interesting.

This journal is a 28-page commentary on the “HATE” and “GREED” that is ruining our country .

meeting angela belosian

I forgot to mention my great meeting with Angela Belosian. She’s a Riversider that moved to Colorado. She had a show at the museum that I visited several times so I contacted her on Facebook and said I would love to meet her if she was ever in Riverside. She came to pick-up her show to take to LA so we met up for tea at the Mission Inn. I love her art – love her. So open and positive, wish she lived closer – I’d ask her if she would be open to mentoring me.

This isn’t Angela’s piece, but it reminds me of her work and until I can find a picture of her art to download it is staying. Someone from Pomona…who is this artist??

11 – 11 – 11 @ 11:11

November 11, 2011 @ 11:11

I purposely took a late walk today so that I could be on my bench in the park for this rare numbered moment.  It is Veteran’s Day and across the lake the Elks Club is conducting a military service by the tank.  The swan is conveniently located right in front of me.

I have 10 days of catching up. It has been a busy November with lots of meetings… art and business related.

My mixed media class at UCR extension is going well.  I really like my instructor… I had her before. I took two days off – used one to get organized for my journal. Story boarded each page so I was able to get 3x’s more done in class.

The second day was used to go to Redlands to meet with Jan Harvey – went by Redlands Art Assoc to see her spotlight show then we had lunch at Olive St. Jan agreed to be one of my mentor instructors. So pleased that Jan is willing to help me… she is the guru of the solar plate printmaking technique. Jan and her husband John are amazing…they built their home and moved every rock on to the property …it is a special place to live.

7 GEESE JUST LANDED IN FRONT OF ME, 21 GUN SALUTE!…TAPS AT 11:11!

checking in with doug…

November 8, 2011

Met with Doug at Fairmount Park so that he could visualize the project.  He asked about my proposal – told him it would be ready in December and that I was taking care of RPS in November. We talked about…

  • a TREE IDEA
  • keeping advisory to 3-4 members
  • issue of MJ leaving RAM – can’t present a proposal to RAM until they hire a new director

Moving forward…so much to do…

OMG…what happened to October?

November 1, 2011

OMG…what happened to OCTOBER? Just saw how fast a month can go by.  Only 11 months left to prepare.  What was accomplished in October:

  • Many art inspiring events attached to Pacific Standard Time (PST)
  • 10 days off without my computer
  • Many magnificent nature experiences in upper Minnesota
  • Many wonderful family and friend times in Ohio
  • Mixed media class at UCR – making 28 page journal
  • Was asked to be the spotlight artist at RCAA for October 2012 artswalk

the start of a beautiful relationship…

October 31, 2011

Saw a SWAN at Fairmount Park today! They don’t migrate this far south so it must have escaped from some park/zoo that imported it. I always have my camera with me…but not today so I went home… it was well worth the trip back. This is the one and only time I saw her open her wings like this. A friend at the Press saw my posting on Facebook and they asked if they could use the picture in the PRESS Enterprise article.
